Dover-Sherborn-Weston Defeats Hopkinton 4-2

Marlboro, MA – In Rink One at the New England Sports Center, the Hopkinton Hillers played the Dover-Sherborn-Weston Raiders in a key TVL matchup. The night was “Unite for the Fight,” as Hopkinton raised money for Cancer Research in honor of their assistant coach, Stephen Munier. Andrew Goldstein started in goal for the Raiders, and Steven Jackson for the Hillers.

The Raiders were ready to play against a red-hot Hillers squad. DSW scored early on an Andrew Marden goal. Marden would score again on a slick passing play to give Dover-Sherbord-Weston a 2-0 lead. Goldstein was outstanding in the net, making several athletic saves, including one late in the first where he robbed Jack Resnick point blank. The Raiders went to the locker room up 2-0.

Hopkinton fought back, the play was even for most of the game, and Goldstein was tested early. James Hayward got the Hillers on the board with a short-side snipe to make it 2-1 early in the second period. Jackson made a great save on a breakaway to keep the game at 2-1 late in the second. However, Patrick Benson snapped a perfect shot home on a hard rebound off the back wall to restore the Raider lead to two. The period ended 3-1 Dover-Sherborn-Weston.

The third period was evenly played again. However, Marden was not done, and he jumped on a rebound for his third goal. It was 4-1 Dover-Sherborn-Weston. The Hillers’ Jake Adams jumped on an odd bounce near the DSW net for a goal and made it a 4-2 contest. The game tightened up and the Hillers had several chances and got Jackson out for 6v5 hockey. Goldstein held the fort. Hopkinton picked up a penalty with a little over a minute left, and that was all for the Hillers. The Raiders picked up a key 4-2 road win.
