The Sudbury Wolves added three players this week, including a goalie from Denmark as well as a forward out of Selects Academy in prep hockey.
The week started with the signing of ’04 forward David Goyette, an Ontario native who played at Selects Academy last season.
Goyette exploded last season, scoring 153 points (49 goals, 104 assists) in 65 games with Selects Academy 15U team this past season. He’s been an offensive juggernaut at every level.
“This kid has the offensive flair,” said NZ’s Ian Moran. “He’s quick in transition and shows great anticipation. He doesn’t wait around to see what his teammates are thinking. Once the puck is on their stick, David takes off and he wants the pass immediately. He handles poor passes really well and can move a rolling puck without issues. … From what I’ve been told David loves the game, loves to train and studies his heroes. I love that stuff.”
Goyette was selected No. 11 overall in the OHL Priority Selection.
The Wolves also signed goaltender Frederik Dichow, an ’01 from Vojens, Denmark. Selected by the Montreal Canadiens (5th round, #138 overall) last season, Dichow enters the OHL after playing for the Malmo Redhawks in Sweden this past season; he had an .891 save percentage and a 2.84 GAA for the J20 Super Elite team this season.
“I am super excited and can’t wait to get to Sudbury,” said the Montreal Canadiens prospect. “After the draft last year, Ukko-Pekka reached out to me and let me know it is a great place to play and develop. I look forward to meeting the coaches and all my new teammates. I hear the fans and support are awesome in Sudbury and I want to help the Wolves win,” he added.
Dichow was selected in the first round of the 2019 CHL Import Draft.
Finally, the Wolves also signed ’04 forward Kocha Delic. This past season with the Toronto Titans Midget AAA team, Delic had a combined 118 points in 91 games.
“Nifty player who is extremely dangerous when the puck is on his stick,” said NZ scouts. “He played on a line with Fimis and showed great chemistry all afternoon. He’s effective at shielding the puck and keeping plays alive – he’s a possession type player who loves controlling the play, especially below the dots. He had some great shifts in this game stopping and turning on defenseman down low below the dots, making it difficult to contain him.”
“I’m proud and honoured to sign with the Sudbury Wolves organization,” stated Delic. “I can’t wait to get to Sudbury to meet all the players, staff, and fans. I’m excited to get things started on this new journey in my hockey career.”
Delic was picked in the second round of the 2020 OHL Priority Selection.
