Coaching moves in the USHL, NAHL

The Omaha Lancers announced earlier this month that they had hired Chad Cassidy as the team’s new head coach. This week, Cassidy added former Maine director of hockey operations Sean Walsh to the coaching staff. Walsh began his tenure at Maine as a student assistant under Red Gendron and his coaching staff.

Walsh’s father, Shawn, was the legendary former head coach at Maine. In the younger Walsh’s role at Maine, he was responsible for video coordination and statistical analysis, among other things.

“I want to thank Coach Cassidy and the entire Lancers organization for this opportunity,” Walsh said. “The history and traditions of this organization are incredible. I couldn’t be more excited to get started and work to help our players achieve their goals and help our team compete every day to bring a Clark cup back to the city of Omaha.”

In the NAHL, the Kenai River Brown Bears announced that they have promoted Josh Dubinsky to head coach. Dubinsky will take over for Keenan Kelly, who recently resigned due to family illness and pursue other opportunities closer to home in Idaho.

Dubinsky was the associate head coach of the team last season. He added Taylor Shaw to the staff as an assistant to replace himself in his old role. Shaw comes to the team from the Gillette Wild of the NA3HL. Shaw has had experience in multiples roles with the Wild, most recently as associate head coach.

At the collegiate level, former Mercyhurst forward Brendan Riley is joining the family business. Riley, whose family includes a long line of Army coaches – his dad, Brian, is currently the head coach – has been hired as an assistant coach at Wilkes University.
