Green Bay Gamblers Hire Mike Leone as Coach/GM

The Green Bay Gamblers (USHL) have hired Mike Leone as their new head coach and general manager. The club announced the hiring on Tuesday.

Leone was on staff with the U.S. National Team Development Program as an assistant coach for the past three seasons. Additionally, he served as an assistant coach at the 2021 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be the next head coach of the Gamblers,” said Mike Leone. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead this team and organization.”

The Dearborn, Michigan native played three seasons at Western Michigan.

“Mike brings everything we were looking for in a new head coach,” said Gamblers President Jeff Mitchell. “He’s well respected in the hockey world and is a proven winner with ties to two former successful Gamblers coaches.”

In addition to the NTDP, Leone was on staff at Bowling Green for one season (2018-19). He also coached for one season with Quad City in the ECHL. Leone replaces Pat Mikesch who just finished an eight-year run with the team.
