Governor’s 6 Proctor 1

Byfield, MA-The New England Prep season kicked off today, and the Proctor Hornets traveled 90 miles down to Governor’s Academy for a 4:15 puck drop. These two teams have kicked off their seasons the past few years, and governors won in a high-scoring game last year at Proctor.

Proctor got off to a strong start in the first period, controlling play in Governor’s zone, and then play leveled off. At 13:52, Governor’s won a puck battle in the corner, and Alec Babineau put in a bouncing puck to go up 1-0. Play continued back and forth, and things started to get physical. At 10:09, matching roughing penalties were handed out. At 7:57 of the period senior Tyson Scanlon got a great pass in the high slot and ripped it top corner. It was 2-0 Governor’s after one penalty-filled period.

The second period started with a Governor’s on a four-on-three power play, then a five-on-four power play, but they could not capitalize. The game continued with several penalties with no goals. Proctor’s 2006 Brock Fisher pounded a rebound home to cut the lead in half. It was back-and-forth physical play for the rest of the period. The teams entered the rooms with Governor’s Academy holding a 2-1 lead.

The third period got off to an exciting start, back-and-forth hockey with chances at both ends. At 9:22, late 2007 Robbie Daley scored for Governor’s, and it was 3-1. An onslaught ensued with goals by Daley again, Scanlon, his second of the game, 2008 Nolan Nassar, and 2007 Coleston Bazin. Proctor switched out goalies at 8:21. Zach Ericson had a solid game in net for Governor’s Academy.
