Brunswick and Exeter Get Tied Up

Exeter, NH -Exeter and Brunswick played a physical fast high tempo hockey game on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Phillips Exeter Academy. Throughout the first period, both teams had their share of scoring chances and big hits, none bigger than senior PEA’s PG Roger Davis open-ice hit in the middle of the first.  Exeter struck first on a turnover when Will Cavanagh fired his team’s ninth shot on the net into the back of the net with 4:02 left in the period. This would be all the scoring in the first period.  Shots at the end of the period Exeter 11 Brunswick 10.

The second period was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams having their share of chances; Brunswick opened the period with a 2v1 less than one minute in that was stuffed by Brady QuackenbushBrunswick evened the score when senior defenseman Luc Lampert stepped down from the point and scored a short-side snipe from the top of the circle. Brunswick’s Connor Choy rang the post with 2:10 left in the period, and Quackenbush had to make a huge save with 36 seconds left in the second to send the teams to the rooms tied at one apiece. Shots at the end of two periods: Brunswick 25 Exeter 18 

Brunswicks goalie Will Baker had to do his part to keep the score tied in the third period, making some key saves of his own, none bigger than the one time save off the stick of Eli Pendergrass with 14:46 left in the game. Brunswick rang another post at 13:45 when Ryan Wachtel beat Quackenbush but found iron, and the puck kicked out. Brunswick would go ahead on a gorgeous tic tac toe one-timer off the offensive zone faceoff finished by Charlie Vincent with 11:34 left in the game. Exeter would get the equalizer on the power play with 7:52 left when Cavanaugh buried the man-advantage goal from seniors Ryan O’Leary and Nick Fasano.  This is how the game would end after three periods and a five-minute overtime session. Final Shots: Brunswick 45 Exeter 34
