Weston, MA -St George’s scored just two minutes into the game to take a 1-0 lead when Aiden Ferreira lit the lamp to get the Dragons going early in the first period. At the 11:39 mark of the period, Danny Buckley took a feed, back door from Max Donatelli after a nice inside-out move and found the back of the net to make it 2-0 Dragons. Rivers had a golden opportunity with 2:55 left in the first period when Cayden Micelli got all of one in the slot, but he rang the post, and the period would end 2-0 St George’s.
The second period was back-and-forth action, with both teams getting their share of chances. Rivers cut the lead in half at the 6:40 mark of the second when 8th grader Finn Sears made the pass of the day to Stevie Rousell on a 2v1 to make it 2-1. With 2:02 left in the frame, Nathan Walsh took a feed from Donatelli and got the Dragons back to a two-goal lead, and that is how the period would end 3-1 St Georges.
Ryan Magaletta scored at 10:43 of the third period on a pass from Jake McIntosh, burying a one-timer from just above the circle on the wing. Less than a minute later, Donatelli made it 5-1 Dragons on an unassisted short-side goal on a 2v1. A penalty-filled seven minutes followed the Dragons’ goal, and neither team could capitalize on the man advantage. St George’s added a goal with 1:16 left in the game when Marco Senerchia sniped over the goalie’s shoulder far side. Ryder Shea was solid between the pipes for St George’s, making many odd-man rush saves and killing the offense’s chances by not allowing rebounds or second chances all game.
