#3 Pelicans and Wild Boars in a Wild One

NOTE: Our scout could not stand up in the stands (injury) and may have mistaken who scored a couple of goals. We waited for a box score to confirm, but none was posted. This was one of the best NE Prep games we have ever seen, so NZ Prep wanted to share what we saw.

Windsor, CT– #3 Loomis Chafee scored two goals in the final 16 seconds to stun the Choate Wild Boars 6-5. The game-winner came off the stick of defenseman Jack Sabol with .8 seconds remaining. Eli Velepec won two faceoffs in the last 16 seconds to park the winner and added a goal to tie the contest at 5-5.

The game started with the Pelicans flying as they played fast and went up 3-0. Cory Alissi netted two goals, and the first ended Pelicans2-Wild Boars 0. 2007 Will Watson made it 3-0 on a terrific stretch pass from Jack Sabol. Ben Darche made it 3-1, and soon after, Loomis took a major penalty. On the power play, Choate struck twice. Owen Tunney scored, and Darche hammered a one-timer from Phillippe Lucier to make it 3-3. The team headed to the locker room, all tied up.

In the third, the Wild Boars scored first when Felix Fortier wired a rebound home to make it 4-3. Will Eatson tied the game at 4:00 with a redirect of a Velepec shot to tie the game up again. With just over a minute left, Jake Gelman created a clean zone entry and, after a broken play, took a pass from Lucier and popped it home. It was 5-4 Choate. Loomis earned an offensive zone faceoff, which Velepec won with 55 seconds left. Their goalie was out. Soon after, Ben Carfora knocked a rebound home to tie the game up at five. Velepec won the center ice faceoff and Loomis quickly earned an offensive zone draw with 11 seconds left. Velepec won the draw again, and Sabol ripped the puck home from Easton Swift on a great pass for a dramatic Pelicans win in a great game.

Loomis will head locally to the annual Avon Christmas Classic, while Choate will head to the Lawrenceville Holiday Invite.
