Worcester Academy vs Portsmouth Abbey

Game Notes

With only a week of practice under their belts as a team, Portsmouth Abbey looked to weather the storm brought on by a more seasoned Worcester Academy team. The Portsmouth goalie was tested early and often in the first period. Worcester opened up the scoring early on with a rocket shot from the point on the power play by #18 Ciara Dauer. The scoring continued for Worcester Academy with goals from 3 different players, #9 Faith Mancini,  #7 Melissa Macri, and #10 Meg Buxton. Worcester’s high paced play held Portsmouth in their own zone, forcing them to take penalties The second period brought with it a great response from Portsmouth Abbey with two quick goals, one was a beautiful back hand forehand move by #2 Ashtyn Brimgarden assisted by #18 Lulu LaPage. The other two Portsmouth goals were scored by #5 Dani Longuemare, with the first of her two being on a penalty shot. The remainder of the game was fairly back and forth with both teams exchanging scoring opportunities. The experience within the Worcester Academy lineup was the difference maker in this game as the Hilltoppers won 6-3.

1. Faith Mancini #9 (Worcester Academy): Faith showed her leadership throughout this game. She lead her team and continued to push the pace throughout the game. She had many looks at the net and her grittiness resulted in a rebound tap-in goal out front.

2. Ciara Dauer #18 (Worcester Academy): Ciara led her team through multiple powerplays, scoring a beautiful, top corner goal from the point,  and anchored her team’s defensive core throughout the entire game. 

3. Mary Honan #31 (Worcester Academy): Mary kept her team in the game and played a solid game, ready to make big saves regardless of the amount of shot she was getting.
