BB&N made it out of the first period with a 1-0 lead over Winchendon. In the final minutes of of the opening frame, Winchendon went to the box, putting BB&N up on the man advantage for the remainder of the period. They showed their skill and patience with the puck and controlled the play, getting two solid shots on net. #18 Maude St. Louis (Winchendon) made a huge block in the last 10 seconds of play, helping ensure Winchendon stayed within 1 heading into the second period.
Winchendon and BB&N traded penalties in the second period of the game and the play was very back and forth with both teams getting good scoring opportunities. Winchendon goalie #1 Leah White had to make some big saves to keep the score 1-0.
Both teams found their third gear in this period and the game got very physical with the teams exchanging hard hits and penalties. Winchendon defenceman #6 Julia Holmes came up big with two goals in the frame, the first as a response to a BB&N goal by #11 Maya Mangiafico. She wound up at the blue line and let go a howitzer of a snapshot which went right over the goalie’s shoulder top shelf. Holmes’ second goal of the game was a beautiful slapshot from the point that found it’s way through traffic to the top right corner of the net with 21 seconds left in the game.
The overtime was short and largely held in the Winchendon zone. #18 Hayley Kelleher put in the game winner following a frenzy of shots and a scramble in front of the Winchendon net minder, giving BB&N a 3-2 victory.
